You are right Carl. I agree that Ottomans killed many people. Did it make me peace-loving individual to admit this? Main theme in this article was beauty of diversity, peace and what music could make us remember how we were brothers. That's all. If you want to go on living with history, it's your choice. But this is useless. What we should do is to show our similarities and to make progress in bilateral relations between countries and nations.

"Ottomans ... have killed some people"?! Are you kidding me? Where would tipping point be between "some" and, for example, "scores" for you? 100 million? Half a billion? Whole billion? For a "piece-loving" individual that you claim to be, your manner of writing of some of the most atrocious deeds of barbaric, if not animalistic, criminals against humanity (and piece that you so much love) is quite trivial, if not dismissive. Not truly "piece-loving" attitude, if you ask me and many other Armenians, Greeks, Slavs, etc.

Dear Richard,
As to “During the 15th century”, you are right. It should be “since the 15th century”.

As to the name of the city, does it make a difference to call Constantinople instead of Istanbul while talking about the time before 20th century? This city is known as Istanbul all around the world now;
“...The city's name İstanbul is a shortened version with a Turkish character of the Greek phrase ΕΙΣ ΤΗΝ ΠΟΛΙΝ (EIS TIN POLIN), meaning "to the city", since Constantinople was the biggest, wealthiest and most populated city of the times, and was already in popular use among the local population. The international name Constantinople also remained in use until the Turkish Postal Services Law of March 28, 1930, according to which all foreign countries were asked to solely use the name Istanbul also in their languages and their postal service networks...” *

On the other hand, I agree Ottomans must have destroyed many places and have killed some people. Did you see anything that claims the reverse here? That’s the history and in this article I didn’t discuss about it. Moreover diversity comes into being as a result of war mostly and we know the consequences of any war. I’d be happy if you give an example that nobody was killed and no building was destoyed in a war. The question which is “why people make war and kill each other” is not my subject now. Besides I am peace-loving person, let war lovers answer such questions. All in all you should visit Istanbul and see how many Greek monuments are still alive.

As to the population; in the middle of 19th century, population of non-muslims was higher than Muslims. In 1900, population of Istanbul reached one million, under 50% of the people were Muslim.* I think, those minorities mentioned above could not have lived in Istanbul under Ottoman Empire during centuries if they didn’t live QUITE (not so) happily.

Finally as to Dinkjian, as you already know, his Armenian roots is in Anatolia, he has worked with many Turkish artists and he performed here in Turkey several times. I think, just like many other Armenians, he also feels here is as own country deeply even if he has another country’s passport.

Besides main idea of this peaceful article is beauty of diversity.

Best regards
