WoW!!!! does anybody else here understand that this is actually a peace-building project? key word (for those who still don't understand, or even want to understand) is PEACE, and that all of this ongoing, really getting old by the way finger pointing back and forth, is actually defeating the entire purpose and meaning of this project? and surprise surprise, NOTHING is going to change with all this century old blaming back and forth; so if you are somebody who REALY wants to see a change for the better between these two neighboring countries, and I'm talking about both Armenians and Turks, do yourself and everyone else a favor and get over yourself and your pride first, than you can join in on a civilized, grown-up, diplomatic conversation and efforts to build peace, otherwise shut up already and go preach your hatred and ignorance elsewhere, because that is not what we are here for.

Niyazi,
There have been 95 years of lies on one side, and we differ which side it is. Turkey will insist on not acknowledging anything, so there is NOTHING to hold joint commissions for. Turkey refuses normal relations, so we have no obligation for any outreach to it. If you want any Armenian to listen to anything you are saying, tell your government to normalize with Armenia unconditionally, otherwise please spare us your polite nonsense.

If i may, I don't feel at ease here with all this Turkish bashing and fear that i will probably get bombarded with how dumb i am for being a naysayer to the genocide and just being a Turk... but in any case I've read some of your comment and wanted to let you guys know that you'd be surprised how we aren't that different. I mean we got haters, just like Garo who is dividing the Armenians amongst themselves (i.e. from his point of view, Misho is not of his kind) and our haters divide the Turks in the same manner. Personally i see myself as an open minded person, compared to most Turks, who are like most people here, nationalist, this without calling you ultra. I say this because i feel the Armenians here will only be content if their perception of history will be accepted.

History has been written onto books by historians and storytellers. I know that not everything i see or hear from Turkey is true. I advise you to do the same from your country. So I'm asking you the Armenian people, what makes you think that your so right about your perception of history? Because you've read books about it or did you choose to believe that what you have read? To that what happened a century ago, why almost all Armenians say one thing and almost all Turks say the contrary? Everyone will always say that their country is with no sin and the best place on Earth and that's called nationalism. Its not a bad thing, everyone should be proud of their country and culture. But unfortunately, this doesn't have anything to do with the truth. If your asking yourselves what about the other countries that say the same as Armenia, well lets take one country as an example: Canada. Turkey was at war at WW1 with France, England, Italy, Greece and others. It should have been an easy victory for that union but judging from their losses, you can easily say that these countries regretted going to war with the Ottomans. A few years ago Canada just openly recognized the genocide and even will teach in history class. Canada is nothing but a British colony in hide. France just recently wanted to make it a law to admit there was a genocide with consequences if refused. You can say that to this they still hold a grudge. To think there was a force so different in religion and culture in the middle east for centuries that has threatened the very existence of those countries is in a way an humiliation in its own for them. The people coming from that union will only take on your side of the story not because its true but to belittle Turkey. Now you may or may not (will probably not :) ) listen to my words, but the reason I'm mentioning all this is quit simple. I am amongst those who believe that Armenia and Turkey can and should be like brothers. A few years ago the prime minister of Turkey suggested a solution to this dilemma, from mysteries to facts, open all the national archives of both countries and to be fare, we could find a third neutral party so that everything goes without any wrong doing. This could have been the very beginning something wonderful. It blew my mind away that such an offer was brushed aside by the Armenian side. This was an occasion and it was declined. How can those who want peace forgive this. In any case, its sad that people are reduced to such mediocre ways as disclosed in this article to achieve peace. I say mediocre not to belittle the action but it feels unrealistic that such an action would give fruit to peace between two countries who are so reluctant to keep things the way they are.

I hope some of the things i wrote down may give you a different opinion about the Turkish people. Because as Milena has mentioned, we do need to be enlightened about each others neighbors. I also hope these words are welcome to all. Peace be with you.

Asli, Kurds were regularly massacring Armenians during that century. Often, it was the Ottoman authorities that had to intervene and stop their raids on Armenian communities. What happened during the genocide is that the authorities not only did not intervene but encouraged the destruction of the Armenians. You can look it up in most history books on the period, preferably those produced outside of Turkey. There is nothing wrong with self-defense if you are going to be attacked and killed by Kurds anyway. Now you have the PKK and Turks use the same mantra of "Why should we care about them if they continue to kill our people?" They don't ask themselves why the Kurds would support the PKK in the first place...

Sure, there are some that would like for there to be an "Armenian Genocide industry," but most of us would also like to commemorate this historical tragedy and all we would like is for your government to acknowledge it.

Let us also remember that the end of the 19th century was also the period of the Hamidian massacres. Who exactly was doing most of the "very wildly" killing, Asli?
