I don’t know this conclusion was reached because Raffi’s works were not translated to English in their entirety, or because of incomplete research, however, Raffi has written a study about the Armenian woman, especially that of the 19th century, which he begins thus:

«Ինձ շատ անգամ պատահել է կարդալ հատ ու կտոր հոդվածներ հայ կնոջ մասին, շատ անգամ տեսել եմ նրա նկարագիրը փոքրիկ վեպիկների մեջ, բայց այդ բոլորն այն աստիճան անկատար են եղել և այն աստիճան հարևանցիորեն ներկայացրել են նրա տիպը, որ հազիվ թե ընթերցողը կարող էր ծանոթանալ ընդհանուր գծերի հետ: Առհասարակ շատ սխալ կարծիքներ են կազմվել արևելքի կանանց մասին ընդհանրապես, իսկ մեր մեջ հայ կնոջ մասին մասնավորապես: Մինչև անգամ նշանավոր հեղինակները, կամ պոեզիայով հափշտակված, նրանց պատկերացնում են որպես հարեմի զարդարանք, որպես ընտանեական սրբարանի կուռք, և կամ բոլորովին արհամարհելով, «ստրուկ» բառը տեղի և անտեղի կպցնում են նրանց ճակատին: Եթե «կինը է մարդկային ընկերության գլխավոր քաղաքակրթիչ տարերքից մեկը», — որպես ասում են գիտնականները, — ուրեմն պետք է լավ ուսումնասիրել նրան: Եվ այդ կլինի իմ հետազոտության նպատակը:»
