This saddens me. I am not Armenian. I am married to an Armenian..so I am an “odar”. I have been married for 17 years and have endured physical and emotional abuse from my husband whom I love since the first year. I am the fool, because I am educated and have a loving family, but STILL have stayed. I have made my decision not to remain, but I pray for the women in Armenia, that they find strengthened resolve and the support they deserve. Armenian mama’s…remember your traditions, but don’t forget to raise your girls to be self sufficient, it is so important. Raise your boys to be respectful and not threatened by equality. My husband’s immediate and extended family has issues with anger and violence, being inappropriately expressed, and it is often explained away as culture..perhaps that is a starting point for change. It’s too late for us, but maybe not for some..God bless

what an odd thing to say…..i know of at least one armenian couple serving prison time because at least one of their children died after neglect in the home….believing that armenians are better than odars is the first reason why we have so many problems relating to our past, our identity and our future, both in the diaspora and in the republic of armenia itself.

You are right, I am a real armenian girl and i do not like any of this, that husband and mother-in-law need to be beaten and burned so he could get a taste of their own medicine, I hate people who are like that, I am so upset and pissed after reading and seeing the video of this tragic story!!!

Very well said Andranik. It’s a disgrace when so many women are disrespected and in this case beaten to death. There is still a large majority of Armenian men who would disagree with you and speak of their superiority and right to exercise power over women.
