Armenia is not a poor country. The country posts invalid information so major countries like the US, France, and Russia can assist financially.

Armenians are living well. If you don't believe me, please find a friend from Armenia and ask them how they're really living.

Yes, the country has the small villages which haven't seen a "fresh" anything since the Soviet years. They are living old beat-up bunkers or containers, left over from the Soviet days. But, everyone is intelligent and capable of surviving.

I assume once the major criminal organization such as the "Government of Armenia" is replaced with a "legitimate" group of politicians, the economy might pick up a bit.

Good Luck!

John,

According to David Sassounian, Forbes did not say that Armenia was the second poorest country in the world. He said that Armenia had the second worst economy in the world. Those are two different things.

Living and working in Armenia, I can assure you that the situation is still severely deplorable for most Armenians. While a small elite is driving around in Hummers and buying villas in Vahagni, the rest of the population is struggling to pay their utility bills every month.

The ones you see strutting around the Opera in the summer are those who are lucky enough to have family members abroad sending them pennies to collect each month. For most Armenians, however, an outing to the center of Yerevan is a serious luxury.

And those Armenians who set a table before you richer than a royal banquet will be starving themselves for the next eight months to cover the debt.

Forbes article is absolutely wrong. For sure, Armenia is not the second poorest county in the world. I have travelled through Armenia and Artsakh extensively and I can tell you there are substantially more homeless families in America or Mexico than in Armenia. Armenia is not a poor country and it's not a rich country either. Every time I visit Armenia I see constant improvement from my last trip, and I give credit to native citizen Armenians. After all, Armenia is still under blockade by it's neighbours for more then 20 years, and continues to survives and make small and tangible progress every year.
It's a mistake to compare Armenia to USA or to Italy or to Brazil... Armenia is a new re-born country... and it takes time to mature.
