Onnik djan:
These are beautiful pictures, they should go in a book-
Do you know the current status on the Shuga? It is a crime to destroy one of the only interesting things left in Yerevan and worth visiting.
I am sur done can have an open air market AND a supermarket in the same vicinity.
What amazes me about Hayasdan is that they are so literally backwards--everywhere else including New york City for Christ's sake is opening and encouraging organic and open air markets and -low and behold, one of the only things that Armenia already has that works--and they decide to tear it down.
Can this be stopped?
By the way whatever happened to the outdoor theater they also want to destroy?
Glad this is all being covered, at least.

So what's the verdict? Will it or won't it reopen? Also, this goes to show that the more business you give these ruthless owners the more they can do what they please. I believe I read somewhere in the Armenian law that monumental buildings are illegal to tear down or "remodel". I really hope that the partial tearing down of this building starts a change for the good in Armenia.

Brilliant photo essay! Really wonderful! I hope the numerous initiatives help save this structure!
It is really disappointing to see that the govts world over have no sense of heritage and culture and mindlessly demolish historic buildings that have become a part and parcel of the place.
Even in India, such demolitions keep on happening! It is really sad.
