Marie Laforet, C’est Magnifique

French actress and singer Marie Laforet, also known as “the girl with the golden eyes” was a great success in her day, marking her debut in the French film “Naissance d’une Etoile” (A Star is Born) and following that with the 1960 cult film “Plein Soleil” (Purple Noon) co-starring with Alain Delon.

Born Maitena Doumenach in 1939 to Armenian parents in Soulac-sur-mer, Laforet married director Jean-Gabriel Albicocco who cast her in La Fille aux Yeux d’Or (The Girl with the Golden Eyes)

In addition to her acting career, she was an accomplished singer and released her first big hit, “Les Vendanges de l’Amout,” in 1963. After a few other singles, Laforet moved to Geneva, Switzerland in 1978 and concentrated on opening an art gallery. Her music saw a resurgence in the 1990s, as she released an album in 1993 and continued to work as an actress. She is currently still living in Geneva.

Watch “Tu Fais Semblant,” (you pretend) from 1963 below and try to resist not falling in love with her.
